英文There is/are用法(Usage of there is/are in English)

There be...的意思為｢有...」，但須注意，真正的主詞是be動詞後的名詞，單複數變化也是由該名詞決定。
句型
There+be+N.
There is a dog on the street.(街道上有隻狗)

There+be+N+Ving. 表示主動進行某個動作
這個句型是簡化自形容詞子句。
There is a dog which is catching a ball in the park.(公園裡有隻狗在追著球)
=There is a dog catching a ball in the park.(which+be動詞可以省略)

There+be+N+Ven(過去分詞). 表示被動進行某個動作
這個句型也是簡化自形容詞子句。
There were hundreds of people which were killed in the war.(有數百人在戰爭中被殺害)
=There were hundreds of people killed in the war.(which+be動詞可以省略)
